Leighton Smith

Working as a Sustainability Consultant in a company which specialises in Sustainable Real Estate, I interface with the minds that sculpt our future environment on a daily basis.

The most intriguing aspect to working in the built environment, I find, is that the fundamental process of constructing buildings hasn’t really changed in centuries. Sure, we have become more time and cost efficient, commensurate with the demands of economic growth but we have not yet fully opened our eyes to the unintended consequences of our actions.

It’s my belief that we need to think holistically and quantitatively critique when we design. Only by truly appreciating the environmental variables which are at play, can we harness their power to enrich lives whilst managing our impact on the planet.
